High-Resolution Greening Scenarios for Urban Climate Regulation Based on Physical and Socio-Economical Factors

Urban ecosystems represent the main providers of ecosystem services in cities and play a relevant role, among many services, regulation urban microclimate mitigation heat island effect. The amount, localization, spatial configuration vegetation (i.e., trees) are key elements for planners designers aiming at maximizing climate potential therefore extending related benefits to higher number residents city users. Different factors constraints morphology socio-economical characteristics environment influence localization new greening scenarios, impacting that can be obtained by residents. This paper investigates these identifying high-resolution scenarios able maximize cooling people local For case study metropolitan areas Catania (Italy) with hot Mediterranean climate, derived modelling physical socio-economic as UMEP model GIS analysis.
